National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. The test is conducted in around 59 cities across India.

Cities -Agartala, Dehradun, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Ahmedabad, Delhi-East, Jodhpur, Rourkela, Allahabad, Delhi-North, Kanpur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Delhi-South, Kochi, Shillong, Balasore, Dhanbad, Kolkata-North, Shimla, Bengaluru, Dharwad, Kolkata-South, Siliguri,  Berhampur, Durgapur, Koraput, Srinagar, Bhopal, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Madurai, Thrissur, Burdwan, Gwalior, Mangalore, Tiruchirappalli, Calicut, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Udaipur, Chandigarh, Imphal, Nagpur, Varanasi, Chennai, Indore, Patna, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Pune, Visakhapatnam, Cuttack, Jammu, Raipur.

Candidates must qualify all three eligibility criteria listed below-

Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 1996. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.

Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2014 or 2015. Candidates appearing in 2016 are also eligible.

At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.

For OBC candidates, the OBC (NCL) certificate must have been issued on or after June 01, 2015.

Candidates may go to the NEST-2016 website www.nestexam.in or may click here and follow the instruction to fill-up the online application form. Photo and signature of the candidate are also required to be uploaded. To pay application fees, option for payment by Demand Draft and Electronic Transfer will be asked from which any one mode of payment has to be selected. The amount of application fees and details of each of these mode of payments are given below. To complete the application procedure, the DD number/transaction details of Electronic Transfer has to be furnished.

Prepare  DD in favour of NISER-NEST, payable at Bhubaneswar, DD for application fee must be sent by post, preferably speedpost, to the Chief Coordinator at the address below on or before the last date of application.

• Male, (SC/ST)- 350/-
• Female (All categories)- 350/-
• Person with Physical Disability- 350/-
