In 1997, the Institute of Marine Engineers (India) formed a “Technical Cell” to explore the possibility of starting some more Pre-sea training courses in Marine Engineering as per STCW 95 Convention.
The Institute received ISO 9002 Certification from IRQS, Mumbai in September 1999 and upgraded to ISO 9001:2000 in August 2002, and further upgraded to ISO 9001:2015
The Institute has its own facilities and shares some laboratories & computer centre with the Institute of Shipbuilding Technology.
