Exam Details

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) is conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu for admissions to candidates in various engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. TNEA counselling 2021 is a single-window process and admissions in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges are offered through such a process because authorities believe that such an initiative facilitates transparency. TNEA rank list is used to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate programs like Bachelors of Engineering(B. E.) and Bachelors of Technology (B. Tech.) in colleges of Tamil Nadu.

The entire Counselling procedure consists of various steps as given below:

  1. Filing of application.
  2. Random Number Generation (by TNEA Authority).
  3. Certificates Verification at Designated TNEA Facilitation Centre.
  4. Rank Publication (by TNEA Authority).
  5. Payment of Initial Deposit.
  6. Exercising the choices of institutions and Branches.
  7. Publication of Tentative Allotment on a notified date (by TNEA Authority).
  8. Confirmation of allotment option by the candidates.

Final allotment of institution and branch (by TNEA Authority)The candidates have to watch for various steps and dates and carefully act to have the completesatisfaction. The first step is filing of an application. This note explains how to file your application on thefirst part.

2. HSC / Equivalent Mark sheet

5. Permanent Community Certificate for ST, SC, SCA, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM (either Permanent card or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate)

6. Nativity Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) - If applicable

7. Income certificate

8. First Graduate Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) and First Graduate Joint Declaration

9. Srilankan Tamil Refugee Certificate - If applicable

10. Candidates who have applied for special reservation

(i) Relevant certificates for Son / Daughter of Ex-service men with Parent’s discharge certificate and ID card

(ii) Differently abled persons should bring Medical Certificate obtained from Medical Board (Consists of 3 Doctors)

(iii) Eminent sports persons* should bring all sports achievements certificates with necessary forms.

If certificates are not produced for verification, their rank will not be published.

Eligibility

A pass in the HSC (Academic) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together as given below:

  • General Category: 45%
  • BC (including Backward Class Muslim): 40%
  • MBC & DNC: 40%
  • SC/SCA/ST: 40%

Or

Vocational Subject: A pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) as given below with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage put together as given below:

  • General Category: 45%
  • BC (including Backward Class Muslim): 40%
  • MBC &DNC: 40%
  • SC/SCA/ST: 40%

Name of the Vocational Subjects:

  • Basic Mechanical Engineering
  • Basic Electrical Engineering
  • Basic Electronics Engineering
  • Basic Civil Engineering
  • Basic Automobile Engineering
  • Textile Technology

Marine Engineering Branch: The Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, vide Notification No. II. TR (21) 97dated: 03.10.2002 have issued notification stating that, for Marine Engineering Degree Program the candidates hould pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics (P), Chemistry (C), Mathematics (M) and English asseparate subject with an average of not less than 60 % in PCM.

Further a minimum of 50 % in English either at10thor 12thstandard is required for all the candidates.

Other Requirements:

  • Maximum age limit 25 years
  • Minimum Height 157 cm
  • Minimum Weight 48 kg
  • Normal Colour vision

Before selecting the course, the candidates shall ensure that they are medically fit for the course.

The candidates will be admitted only on production of physical fitness certificate obtained from the Medical Officerauthorized by the Director General of Shipping, failing which they will lose the admission.

Fees

Registration Fee details

For General category - Rs. 500/-.
For SC /SCA /ST category belonging to Tamil Nadu - Rs. 250/-.
For each special reservation category - Rs. 100/- (Additional).

Counselling Fee

Counseling fee of Rs. 5,000/- for General category.

Rs. 1,000/- for SC/ SCA/ ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu.

Payment has to pay online through Net banking/ Credit/ Debit Card and Bank Demand Draft.

Admission process

Step 1 – Registration: Candidates could fill the online TNEA application form and register at first. They have to provide their personal and academic details while registering for TNEA. They have to pay the required Registration fees through Payment Gateway using Debit Card, Credit Card, Net banking. Candidates had to download the printout of the application and get a print out to submit only at the time of certificate verification.

Fees payable were Rs. 500/- for Gen/OBC and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/SCA. 

Step 2 – Random Number Generation: The random number is a number that is unique to each applicant and is generated by the system. It is used to resolve any issues in allotment of merit ranks in case of candidates scoring the same marks but which is unreolved by the inter-se-merit guidelines. Candidates are required to log in and download the random number assigned to them and safe keep it. An SMS will also sent to the candidates with details of the random number and schedule for counselling. 

Step 3 – Certificate verification: Anna University has announced a list of facilitation centres in each district. Candidates had to visit these centres to get the original documents verified before participating in the counselling and seat allotment. A random number was also allotted to all the candidates ahead of the rank list. 

Candidates have to carry all of their original documents to the counselling. The list of documents is provided below.

Step 4 – Rank List Publication: The rank list of all the candidates will be published by Anna University. Candidates could check their names along with their ranks mentioned in the rank list. 

Step 5 –  Payment of Initial Admission fee: Candidates will have to pay the specified counselling fee of Rs. 5000/- (Rs. 1,000/- for SC/ SCA/ ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) online through Net banking/ Credit/Debit Card and Bank Demand Draft. 

Step 6 – Choice filling: Candidates will have to fill in their choice of colleges from TNEA participating institutes and B.Tech programs offered by them in the order of their priority during this step. Choice filling will be allowed during every round of counselling. 

Step 7 – Seat allotment: Candidates will be allotted seats on the basis of their merit, choice filling and reservation (wherever applicable). After seat allotment, candidates will be required to download the allotment order. After verifying the allotted college and course as printed on the letter, candidates will have to confirm the seat or exercise the option to upgrade, withdraw as the case may be within the given period of time. Candidates who confirm their seats will have to report to the college and enrol for admission before the given last date.
