Retired bureaucrat Krishna Mohan Sahni, an IAS officer of the 1969 batch, has been appointed the new Chairman of National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Ltd.
His appointment has been approved by the Forward Markets Commission, the Ahmedabad-based NMCE said in a statement here on Tuesday.
Sahni has held various senior positions in the Government of India. Since 2004, he was the Union Labour and Employment Secretary until December 31, 2006, when he superannuated.
Some high-profile Independent Directors have also joined the NMCE board. They include two former Gujarat Chief Secretaries Pravin K. Laheri and Sudhir G. Mankad. Mankad had also served the Centre in various capacities.
Other Independent Directors to join the NMCE Board are Paul Joseph, retired Indian Economic Service (IES) officer of the 1970 batch, who retired in 2008 as Principal Advisor to the Planning Commission India, and V.S Jain, former Chairman, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL).
NMCE, India’s first demutualised commodity exchange granted permanent recognition by the Government in the 1990s, was embroiled in a spate of controversies in recent past and its erstwhile chief Kailash Gupta had been removed.
