NEW DELHI: More than a month after the transport department said that it would introduce colour coding in autorickshaws to ensure that drivers don't refuse passengers, especially at night, the department is yet to formulate a plan.
On Wednesday, transport minister Ramakant Goswami announced yet another change in the plan when he said that instead of six colour codes or zones, there would be 11 zones now.
At the time the plan was announced, the transport department had said that it would be implemented within a few weeks.
Goswami said, 'The transport department has decided to put coloured strips of 11 different types on autos — instead of six as decided earlier — to segregate them into different zones. On implementation, it will solve the problem of refusal at night, as the drivers cannot refuse to take passengers to the area or zone they belong to." He also announced setting up of a committee for the smooth functioning of Gramin Sewa services.
The committee consists of members from the transport department, Delhi traffic police and DIMTS. This committee will give a report on the smooth functioning of Gramin Sewa and routes covered by them. The minister added that the DTC had been asked to ensure strict compliance of speed restrictions of its buses.
