The ruling Congress in Karnataka won both Mandya and Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha seats, which went into bypolls on August 21, with impressive margins.
Congress candidate Ramya (Divya Spandana) in Mandya won by a margin of 67,611 votes. The victory margin of D.K. Suresh in Bangalore Rural is expected to be close to a lakh, the final tally of which was yet to be officially announced as on 12.30 p.m. on Saturday.
Ms. Ramya polled 4,84,085 votes while her Janata Dal (Secular) opponent C.S. Puttaraju polled 4,16,474 votes. Mr. Suresh fought against Anitha Kumaraswamy in Bangalore rural.
The August 21 bypoll had a straight fight between Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) candidates, in which the latter was supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
