Marriage laws will now become more women friendly with the government on 17 July 2013 approving a slew of recommendations of a Group of Ministers (GoM) including providing for sufficient compensation to a woman from her husband's ancestral property in case of divorce.

He was administered the oath of office by Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice T. Meena Kumari at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

President  Pranab Mukherjee has appointed  Veteran parliamentarian Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil as the new governor of Sikkim on 4 july 2013.  A press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said the appointment would be with effect from the date he assumes office.

Stepping up reconstruction works in flood-hit Uttarakhand, The Union Government of India on 4 July 2013 announced that it will rebuild 10,000 houses and undertake other activities to develop infrastructure in all affected municipalities. 

Jammu: Navjot Singh became the youngest athlete of the state to be conferred with the Sher-i-Kashmir Sports Award on Tuesday.
Navjot received the award at an impressive investiture ceremony hosted after a gap of 22 years.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the cut-off marks for National Eligibility Test (NET) which was conducted in December. The cut-off for different categories has been prepared on the basis of the aggregate of all three papers for which the exam was conducted by the UGC.

Students are interested to take admission in IITs and all other central engineering schools may soon have to switch from pens and pencils to a computer mouse under a move to completely computerise key centrally conducted entrance tests. The HRDministry and the CBSE are scouting for a firm to audit their preparedness for the switch, top government officials confirmed and the move is backed by HRD minister MM Pallam Raju.

Bharti Airtel in the month of March 2013 launched high quality voice service for its subscribers in Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi and Nigeria in the African sub-continent. 

With the launch of service Airtel becomes the third operator to launch a mobile HD voice service in Africa. Further launches will be scheduled in 2013.

According to a FIH official website, India is among the six nations in the fray for the 2018 World Cup. Indian had already hosted World Cups for men twice in 1981- and 2010 and if gets it will be a historic third time.
