Online applications are invited for the courses commencing in JANUARY 2023 for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and PermanentCommission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty(Technical and Non-Technical) Branches.

Type of Commission

(a) PC for Men. Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till  the age of super annuation as per their branch and rank. 

(b) SSC for Men & Women.

(i) The engagement period for Flying Branch SSC officers is fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Non extendable).

(ii) The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech and Non-Tech) branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability and merit.

(iii) Grant of Permanent Commission (PC) would be considered during the last one year of service subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, willingness, suitability and merit.

Training. Training will commence in the first week of Jan 2023 for all courses at Air Force Academy Dundigal (Hyderabad). The duration of training for Flying and Ground Duty (Technical) Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments. PAN Card and account in SBI/ Nationalised Bank is mandatory at the time of joining Air Force Academy. Aadhaar Card is mandatory for registration. 

Allowances. In addition to pay, allowances are applicable based on the nature of duty/ place of posting and it includes Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Force, Siachen, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area and Remote Locality Allowance.

Privileges. Air Force Officers are entitled to furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents, Canteen, Officers’ Mess, loans at subsidised rates, LTC etc. Leave (60 days annual and 20 days casual) subject to service exigencies.

Insurance. Rs. 1 crore Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. An additional cover of Rs. 12 Lakhs (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.

Sports and Adventure. Indian Air Force provides state of the art facilities to play various sports and adventure activities (sky diving, micro light flying, mountaineering, water rafting etc.).

Tattoos. Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm (from inside of elbow to the wrist) and on the reverse side of palm/ back (dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable. Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing customs  and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis.

Narcotics. Use/ possession of narcotics is banned. Candidate may be tested for presence of drugs in the body during Medicals and subsequently during training/ service career as an officer. If candidate is found to be using/ in possession of narcotics during any time of training/ service career, candidate would be debarred from joining the Indian Air Force or be removed from service if already joined.

Marital Status. Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course. Widows/ Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

Travel Allowance (TA). To and fro travelling fare by the shortest route of AC-III Tier/ AC Chair Car or actual normal bus fare will be reimbursed to the candidates appearing in Air Force Selection Board for the first time. For all other modes of travel, TA will be admissible as per the Government authorized rules. No TA is admissible, if you have already appeared for the same type of entry at any of the Selection Boards.

Physical Conditioning. You are advised to be physically fit when you report for SSB in order to be able to undergo the tests at AFSB. You should aim to achieve an ability to run 01 mile (1.6 kms) in 10 minutes, do 10 push ups and 03 chin ups. Prospective candidates are also advised to keep themselves in good physical condition to adapt to physical training at AFA which encompasses running, swimming, rope climbing and other forms of physical training/ conditioning in which they would undergo mandatory tests during training.

Pay on Commissioning (As per 7th CPC)

Flying officer: Rs. 56,100/- To Rs. 1,77,500/-

Level: 10

MSP: Rs.15,500/-

Note. Flight Cadets shall receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100/- per month during one year of training. 

Allowances. In addition to pay, allowances are applicable based on the nature of duty/ place of posting and it includes Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Force, Siachen, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area and Remote Locality Allowance.

Eligibility

Age. (a) Flying Branch. 20 to 24 years as on 01 January 2023 i.e. born between 02 January 1999 to 01 January 2003 (both dates inclusive).

Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 year i.e. born between 02 January 1997 to 01 January 2003 (both dates inclusive).

(b) Ground Duty (Technical/ Non-Technical) Branches. 20 to 26 years as on 01 January 2023 i.e. born between 02 January 1997 to 01 January 2003 (both dates inclusive).

Marital Status: Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of course.

Widows/ Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

Educational Qualifications

(i) Flying Branch: Candidates should have mandatorily passed with at lest 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level.

Graduates with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Or

B.E/ B.Tech Degree (Four years course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent

Or

Candidates who have cleared Section A& B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

(ii) Ground Duty (Technical) Branch

  • (aa) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics):  {AE(L)}. Candidates with a minimum of 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/ integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognized University OR cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-

  • (aa) Administration&Logistics. Graduate Degree (Minimum three years Degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • (ab) Accounts. B. Com Degree (Minimum three years degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • (ac) Education. MBA/ MCA or M.A/ M.Sc. Degree in English/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ International relations/ International Studies/ Defence Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relation with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together in Post-Graduation (Minimum two years programme) and 60% marks in graduation, (both recognised by UGC/ Competent Accreditation Authority). For integrated courses (single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry), the minimum duration must be as per prevailing UGC guidelines with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

(iv) NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch): NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ certificate acquired on or after 15 Dec 15 is mandatory.

Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2. Graduates with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Or

B.E/ B.Tech Degree (Four years course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Or

Candidates who have cleared section A& B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

(v) Meteorology:  Post Graduate Degree in any Science stream/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Geography/ Computer Applications/ Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/ Meteorology/ Agricultural Meteorology/ Ecology & Environment/ Geo-physics/ Environmental Biology with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together (Provided Maths and Physics were studied at Graduation Level with a minimum of 55% marks in each).

Physical and Medical Standards: Guidelines with regard to physical and medicalstandards for candidates are as follows:

(a) Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards. 

Height and Weight: (i) The minimum acceptable height for men and women candidates in Flying Branch is 162.5 cms, Leg Length: Min - 99 cms, Max -120 cms. Thigh Length: Max - 64 cms, Sitting Height: Min - 81.5 cms, Max - 96 cms (No concession for age/ sex/ region).

(ii) The minimum acceptable height for male candidates in Ground Duty (Technical/Non-technical) Branch is 157.5 cms.

For women candidates minimum acceptable height is 152 cms. (For Gorkhas and individual belonging to hills of North Eastern region of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable height will be 5 cms less.

 In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height will be 2 cms less than what is applicable to men and women respectively). 

Syllabus

A) Syllabus

The subjects, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:

a) Exam AFCAT:  General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test  

Dutaion: 02 Hours

No of Question: 100

Maximum Marks: 300

b) Exam EKT [For Candidates with one of the choices as (Technical) Branch]: Mechanical, Computer Science and Electrical & Electronics

Duration: 45 Minutes

No of Question: 50

Maximum Marks: 150  

The Online examination will consist of objective type questions and will be in English only for both AFCAT and EKT.

Marking Scheme is as follows:

(a) Three marks will be awarded for every correct answer.

(b) One mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

(c) No marks for unattempted questions. 

Questions will be based on the metric system of Weights & Measures wherever applicable.

Candidates are required to appear for the Online AFCAT in person. Under no circumstance will any scribe or another candidate be allowed to appear/ assist in the exam.

 Air Force has the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination. 

B) Standard and Syllabus of the Examination

 i) Syllabus

(a) English. Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion/ Filling in of correct word, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary, Idioms and Phrases.

(b) General Awareness. History, Geography, Civics, Politics, Current Affairs, Environment, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Sports, etc.

(c) Numerical Ability. Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple Interest, Time & Distance (Trains/Boats & Streams).

(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability. 

ii) Standard

The standard of Numerical Ability Questions will be of Matriculation level. The standard of questions in other subjects will be of graduation level (Indian University).

Admission process

Candidates are required to apply online by using the linkhttps://careerindianairforce.cdac.in, or https://afcat.cdac.in. Aadhaar Card is mandatory for online registration.

Eligible candidates are to register online through separate Tabs available forAFCAT Entry/NCC Special Entry/MET Entry.

Candidates eligible for one/more entries are to register separately in each entry.

Conduct of Online Testing for AFCAT Examination and Fee Structure: For the first time, online testing will be conducted for AFCAT entry in various AFCAT centers.

Candidates registering for AFCAT entry will have to pay an amount of Rs. 250/- as examination fee.

However, candidates registering fo Meteorology entry and NCC Special entry are not required to pay any amount.

Admit Card

Admit Card is available for download through Candidate Login after 05 February 2022.

The e-Admit Card will be sent to the registered email IDs and will also be available at the website www.careerindianairforce.cdac.in for all candidates who successfully submitted their online application.

No Admit Card will besent by post.

To download the e-Admit Card, a candidate should have his/her Username and Password.

The candidate will be solely responsible for downloading his/ her e-Admit Card.

If the candidate does not receive his/ her admit card in their registered email id or is not able to download the same from the mentioned website or if there is any error / discrepancy / anomaly in the e-admit card, he/she must enquire from AFCAT Query Cell at C-DAC, Pune immediately.
